Backroads of the Flinthills with Folklorist Jim Hoy

2014 Kansan of the year, Dr. Jim Hoy is a living legend of the Flint Hills. Raised on a ranch near Cassoday, Kansas, Jim has deep roots in the Flint Hills region. Dr. Hoy is a retired professor of English at Emporia State University, published over a hundred articles, and wrote or co-wrote 17 books including Flint Hills Cowboys: Tales of the Tallgrass Prairie. Join us for an intimate afternoon as Jim Hoy takes us to the area he grew up and shares Flint Hills folklore. Seating is very limited so book now. (Above photo taken by Tom Strongman).

Arrive in Emporia early so you can enjoy an award winning cup of coffee at The Granada Coffee Company or a chocolate treat at The Sweet Granada. Passengers are welcome to bring food and drink on board the bus.

We’ll first drive to the Bazaar Cattle Pens lookout for a beautiful sweeping view of the Flint Hills.

We’ll then continue to Cassoday, Prairie Chicken Capital of the World.

After Cassoday we’ll then be going to Shadow Valley Ranch and see some Kansas wild mustangs.

The next stop is the photographer’s dream, Teter Rock.(weather permitting)

We will then take the backroads to Olpe to enjoy dinner at the world famous Olpe Chicken House. Dinner not included in ticket price.

It’s then a short drive back to Emporia.

All with Dr. Jim Hoy on the microphone telling us stories like only he can.

Departs: 1:30 P.M. In front of the Granada Theatre in Emporia,KS

Finishes at approximately 7:30 P.M.
